Taste of Kizomba - Monday Nights in April at Aura Studio NC

Join Kizomba RDU for this special series that will go beyond the basics of Kizomba and introduce you to more of what Kizomba has to offer. Each week will explore a different theme to help you level up in your dancing! Register for the entire series or drop-in!  

Mondays in April 2, 9, 16, 23 | 7pm - 9pm | 1.5 Hour of Instruction + 30 min warm up

Cost: $50 (3 Weeks) or $20 per class

Mon 4/2 Week 1: Tarraxhina Intensive
This class will cover what Tarraxinha is and where the place for it is in Kizomba, common tarraxinha movements that can be used to fill empty spaces when the music and steps call for it and exercises that will help dancers learn how to isolate certain muscles needed to dance Tarraxinha.

Mon 4/ 9 Week 2: Kizomba Musicality Intensive
Dancing in Kizomba is not only about finding the beat. Your musicality and interpretation are very important to help make the best of the dance. This class will explore the different components used in song structure and help train your ears to listen and learn to recognize the different styles of music that fall underneath the "Kizomba Umbrella" so you can dance more appropriately to the music. Focus will be on dancing to Kizomba and Ghetto Zouk music

Mon 4/16 Week 3: Trends in Kizomba
Kizomba is grounded in the fundamentals of the dance, but there always trends of new moves and steps that add even more creativity to create fun on the dance floor! This class will introduce some of the latest moves, "tricks" and technique to add "flava" to you dancing!

Afrobeats with Saky - at Triangle Dance studio - cost $15
Do you ever feel lost when Afro House or Afro Beats comes on at a party? Do you ever wish you had some fun moves in your back pocket to lead in front or participate with the rest of the group?

Get ready for these high-energy class with the talented Saky!! Afrobeats combines the sounds of hip-hop, techno, R&B, house, and soul music into a unique mixture of vocals, intersecting rhythms, and percussion. Challenge your musicality and learn how to move to the beat in this unique and fun workshop. Improve your free-style dance skills to become more confident on the dance floor.

About Saky

Sakarah Hall-Edge is a Durham native dancer, choreographer and teacher. She began her training at age 5 in traditional West African dance styles ; spent numerous years as a student at the American Dance Festival where she received further training in other styles and performed in multiple works. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she majored in Dance and Choreography and toured with The Clothesline Muse from 2015-2017. Currently she’s still performing, teaching and setting works

INTRO TO SEMBA - Wednesday Nights in April at Triangle Dance Studio

What is Semba? Semba is both a musical genre and dance from Angola, and the "grandfather" of Kizomba music and dance. This 4 Week series will cover how to recognize Semba music, foundation steps and movements to dance Semba and fun footwork to get you out on the dance floor when Semba music comes on at socials.We'll also discuss the history & cultural aspects to help you better appreciate Kizomba like never before & become a true lover of Semba.

Dates: Wed in April - 4, 11, 18, 25 | 7:30pm - 8:30pm | 1 Hour of Instruction

Cost: $50 or $15 drop-in
